Air conditioning technicians are responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing air conditioning units and other climate control systems. They ensure that these systems are running smoothly and efficiently in order to maximize customer comfort, safety, and satisfaction. The most successful air conditioning technicians have strong mechanical skills as well as knowledge of temperature control systems and related codes and regulations.
A typical day on the job for an air conditioner technician may include inspecting existing HVAC systems for proper functioning; diagnosing problems with refrigerant levels or pressure switches; replacing worn out parts such as motors or compressors; cleaning duct work; adding coolants as needed; calibrating thermostat settings; sealing ducts with insulation material; and completing necessary paperwork such as maintenance reports or time sheets.
