Job Description
A lifeguard is a critical and important position at any aquatic facility. This job requires an individual to have excellent swimming skills in order to protect the safety of guests and patrons at the pool or beach. Lifeguards are responsible for supervising people in and around the water, enforcing safety rules, providing emergency care when necessary, and educating swimmers on proper safety protocols.
Lifeguards must be certified by a recognized organisation such as the American Red Cross or YMCA. They must also be able to demonstrate their physical capability with tests that measure speed, endurance and strength. Successful lifeguards need strong communication skills as they often interact with parents, children and other visitors at the facility. In addition to these requirements, lifeguards need knowledge of CPR & First Aid techniques for emergency situations.
