Position description

The Senior Media Relations Coordinator’s primary goals are creating media opportunities and proactively responding to emerging newsworthy issues. The candidate will firmly establish and maintain ongoing personal relationships with key Canadian media and continuously ensure a presence in the marketplace. The Senior Media Relations Coordinator will report to and is responsible to the Communications Manager.

Responsibilities

The Senior Media Relations Coordinator has the following responsibilities:

Media Relations

-Liaise with the media relations representative on the CPC communications committee
-Develop, implement and manage media relations plans
-Write, translate, distribute and post press releases
-Respond to media requests, including interview requests and requests for photos


-Organize press events

-Create and update informative documents for the media regarding the CPC, the Games and the Movement
-Establish on-going relationships with various media across Canada
-Create and update a database of national, provincial and local media sources
-Manage the media monitoring system
-Create a crisis media plan and procedures, including developing possible crisis scenarios
-Help develop content for the CPC newsletter and website
-Train CPC staff and CPC spokespersons in media relations and interview techniques
-Write, translate Q&A; on several topics and for several events

Paralympic Teams

-Act as Press Chief at Paralympic Games, managing the Media Team and office
-Revise job descriptions and select Mission staff personnel
-Develop and implement the logistics of the Canadian Media Team
-Create partnerships with important media to cover the Games
-Promote the Games to the media and Coordinate the Canadian media accreditation process
-Develop media relations campaign for upcoming Games
-Develop a strategic approach information package for media outlining the background of the Paralympics, Canadians to watch for, media guidelines, interesting quotes, sponsors, facts and figures. Send to all major media outlets and placed on the CPC Web site.
-Be in charge of the spokesperson team and their media relations campaign
-Supervise the media guide production and collect athletes information.
-Help provide a media training session for the athletes and Develop/update a media training guide
-Organize the Paralympic Team Announcement, and the press conferences at the airport (return)

Other

-Liaise with VANOC Media relations department and personnel
-Propose projects and create partnerships with some TV networks to increase exposure
-Liaise with the TV representative on the CPC communications committee
-Develop and manage relationships with key provincial sport communities

Qualifications

-University diploma in communications, public relations or journalism
-Minimum of 5 years experience in a similar position, including managing staff
-Major event experience, preferably sport
-Superior writing skills
-Bilingual
-Knowledge of standard PC software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

-Can work in a multi task environment
-Ability to work in a Team environment and prioritize work assignments
-Ability to work in an intensive environment and for long hours during the Games
-Proactive, dynamic and diplomatic
